Buck Kicks On: Rogers Extends Time In Red

The Melbourne Renegades have secured one of the club’s most important pillars, with Tom Rogers adding an additional season to his contract that will see him remain in red through to the end of BBL|16.

Rogers was the Renegades’ standout performer in BBL|14, claiming the League’s Golden Arm Award (joint winner with Jason Behrendorff) and the club’s Player of the Season accolade.

The 30-year-old was sidelined for the entirety of BBL|15 after sustaining a shoulder injury during the off-season but is on track to return for Tasmania’s domestic summer and a big BBL|16 with the Renegades.

Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten said locking in Rogers was a key priority for the club.

“Tom is a hugely important part of this list and what we’re building. His performances in BBL|14 set the benchmark for our bowling group, and the way he goes about his preparation and leadership has a big influence on those around him,” Rosengarten said.

“While it was frustrating for everyone to see him miss last season through injury, he’ll return with real intent and play a major role for us moving forward.”

Rogers said he was motivated by the opportunity to continue building with the club.

“I love this group and the direction the Renegades are heading. Missing last summer only increased my hunger to get back out there and help this club achieve success,” Rogers said.

“I’ve put a lot of work into getting my body right and I’m excited about what’s ahead. I’m ready to attack BBL|16 and help this team take the next step.”

Rogers’ commitment follows a string of re-signings including Ollie Peake and Josh Brown as the Renegades continue to shape their list ahead of next Big Bash campaign.
