The Melbourne Renegades have locked in one of Australia’s most exciting young talents, with Ollie Peake signing a new two-year deal with the club.
Peake pens two-year deal after BBL breakout
Peake’s rise has been one of the major stories of BBL|15, with the teenage batter producing a breakout campaign in red and making a habit of delivering in the biggest moments.
The right-hander finished the season with 167 runs from his six matches including a top score of 59 from 29 deliveries in front of his hometown crowd in Geelong.
But it was Peake’s unforgettable night at Optus Stadium that truly announced his arrival on the Big Bash stage.
With the Renegades needing four runs from the final ball to snatch victory against the Perth Scorchers, Peake ramped a six to seal a dramatic win and stun the home crowd — a moment that quickly became one of the highlights of the season.
Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten said Peake’s new deal was a reward for his performances and the maturity he has shown early in his career.
“We got a glimpse of what he’s capable of but his performances for Victoria and for the Renegades in this year’s Big Bash has shown just how much maturity he’s got and what a talent he is,” Rosengarten said.
“He's a homegrown talent with enormous potential. He’s worked hard to earn this opportunity, and we’re excited to see how he continues to develop within our program for at least the next two seasons.”
Peake, who is currently captaining Australia at the Under 19 World Cup, said he was proud to extend his time with the Renegades and couldn’t wait to build on the momentum of BBL|15.
“It’s been an unreal experience, and I’ve loved every minute being part of this group,” Peake said.
“To be able to sign on for another two years is something I’m really grateful for, and I’m looking forward to what we can achieve.”
Peake will remain a key part of the Renegades’ plans moving forward, as the club continues to invest in young, homegrown talent and build a squad capable of challenging deep into future Big Bash campaigns.
