Molineux unavailable for WBBL opening matches

Melbourne Renegades captain Sophie Molineux will miss the opening two matches of WBBL|11 as she manages a minor quad strain.

The club's medical team is taking a cautious approach with Molineux given her workload through Australia's recent ICC World Cup campaign.

Renegades Head Coach Simon Helmot said the decision was made with the bigger picture in mind.

"Sophie's been tracking well after returning home from India, but we won't be taking any risks this early in the season," he said.

"She's our leader, a really important player and we want to make sure she's fully fit and ready to go for what’s a big campaign ahead.”

In Molineux's absence, vice-captain Georgia Wareham will step up as the team's on-field captain supported by a wealth of experience.

"Wareham's been part of our leadership group for the past three years and she's a natural leader within the squad and has a great cricket brain.

"She'll do an excellent job guiding the team as we kick off our campaign."

The Renegades open their WBBL|11 campaign this weekend in Brisbane before returning home for their clash with the Thunder at CitiPower Centre on November 11.

An update on Molineux’s availability will be provided following Game 2.
