Fast and fearless: Wong returns to the Big Bash with the Gades

The Melbourne Renegades have strengthened their pace stocks with the signing of English quick Issy Wong for the WBBL|11 season.

Wong, one of the most electrifying fast bowlers in women’s cricket, brings genuine pace and international experience to the Renegades line-up.

Born in London, Wong made her Test, ODI and T20I debuts for England in 2022 and has since featured in the world’s premier competitions, including The Hundred with Birmingham Phoenix and the WPL with Mumbai Indians, where she famously became the first woman to take a hat-trick in the tournament.

Plus, an appearance in the WBBL in 2021 where she showed her capabilities with the bat with her highest offshore score of 43 from 19 deliveries.

“I’m so pumped to be heading back to the Big Bash and pulling on the Renegades colours,” Wong said.

“The WBBL has always been one of the best comps in the world. I’ve always loved the challenge of playing in Australia and I’m really looking forward to getting started.

“The group has already made me feel so welcome, it looks like a really dynamic and exciting team. There’s a good mix of youth and experience, and I can’t wait to be part of it and contribute however I can.”

Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten said Wong’s addition is a major boost for the squad.

“Issy offers genuine pace and a competitive edge that few can match,” Rosengarten said.

“She’s shown her quality on the international stage and will add another dimension to our attack this season.”

Wong joins a strong overseas contingent alongside Alice Capsey, Deandra Dottin and Davina Perrin, with the Renegades finalising preparations for their opening match in Brisbane on November 9.
