The Melbourne Stars have defeated the Melbourne Renegades by eight wickets in the first RMIT Melbourne Derby of 2024.
Gades go down to Stars in first RMIT Melbourne derby
Here are the key moments from the game:
RMIT Melbourne Derby
While the weather saw a shortened game, we still managed to get some cricket in for the first RMIT Melbourne Derby of BBL|13.
It didn’t look great early with the rain, but after the covers came off the MCG crowd was able to see a pre-game performance from Peking Duk before the game got underway - with the Renegades batting first.
QDK launches a bomb
It was a fast start from Quinton de Kock as he made the most of the reduced overs early on.
A flourish of boundaries from the South African dynamo was highlighted by a monstrous six deep into the crowd from a swivelling pull shot - 95 metres in length.
It may have been short-lived, ending on 23 off 16 balls but it was an entertaining innings none the less.
First ball, first six
Back to the ground where he tore the Stars batting line-up apart one year before, Tom Rogers (the Renegades one) made sure he picked up where he left off, but this time with the bat.
Coming to the crease at 6-79, the Tasmanian quick didn’t waste any time, clobbering the very first ball of his innings over the rope for six.
Rogers would put on a handy 14-run partnership late in the innings alongside Mackenzie Harvey, but it wouldn’t be enough to get the Gades over the line.
