Renegades name squad for WBBL|09 season opener

The Melbourne Renegades have named a 14-player squad for its opening game of the WBBL|09 season against the Brisbane Heat at the CitiPower Centre tomorrow.

West Indies captain Hayley Matthews will lead the side throughout the tournament in place of the injured Sophie Molineux.

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur returns to the WBBL following her stellar WBBL|07 campaign where she was the player of the tournament, with 406 runs and 15 wickets.

England’s Tammy Beaumont rounds out the internationals selected in the squad. She comes off a fantastic Ashes campaign, becoming the first Englishwoman ever to score a Test match double-century.

Georgia Wareham arrives fresh from playing for Australia in the recent series against the West Indies and is in line to make her first appearance since WBBL|07 after missing last season through injury.

Batter Jess Duffin is also a chance to appear in her first match since WBBL|07 after missing last season due to maternity leave.

Australian speedster Tayla Vlaeminck (shoulder) will be unavailable for WBBL|09 due to injury and has been replaced in the squad by South Australian batter, Emma De Brough.
