Two Derbies and New Years Day at the MCG headline BBL|16 fixture

Fixtures have been revealed for the KFC BBL|16 season with New Years Day to mark a new era for the Renegades after annonucing the MCG as the primary home venue.

The match will be played at the family-friendly timeslot of 4pm, building on the success of last year’s NYD fixture at Marvel Stadium that saw over 26,000 fans attend.

  • Derbies against the Stars to be played at the MCG on January 4 and January 16
  • Afternoon fixture on New Years Day against Sydney Sixers at the MCG
  • Renegades to host first ever Christmas Eve Fixture against Hobart Hurricanes

The Renegades will play two other fixtures at the MCG, both against Melbourne Stars in the Derbies, with the first on January 4 at 6:05pm, with the return match on January 16 at 7:15pm.

Last year’s derby at the MCG saw 68,000 fans attend to see the Renegades lift the inaugural presentation of the Mace, which will again be contested for in all games between the clubs this season.

For the first time in the BBL’s history, cricket will be played on Christmas Eve in Melbourne with the Renegades to host Hobart Hurricanes at Junction Oval in prime time.

In addition to the new lights that have been installed, temporary infrastructure will be constructed to elevate the experience for fans at the venue. The Renegades will play a second fixture at Junction Oval on January 10 against Brisbane Heat.

As was announced last week, the Renegades will open their season against defending champions Perth Scorchers in Chennai India on December 12. The squad will have a 10-day break following the travel to India before playing last year’s runners-up the Sixers at the SCG on December 22.

The remaining away trips will be played against Sydney Thunder (Dec 27), Adelaide Strikers (Jan 6) and the Scorchers (Jan 13).
