Melbourne Renegades thanks Simon Helmot for his outstanding contribution

The Melbourne Renegades would like to thank championship-winning coach Simon Helmot, who will step down as Head Coach of the club’s WBBL program to explore a new opportunity.

A deeply respected figure within the club and the game, Helmot leaves after an extraordinary contribution to both men’s and women’s programs.

A defining highlight of Helmot’s tenure was leading the Renegades to their maiden Women’s Big Bash League title in 2024 - a historic achievement for the club.

Helmot became WBBL Head Coach in May 2021, after rejoining the club in 2020 as Assistant Coach of both BBL and WBBL teams. As the Renegades’ inaugural BBL Head Coach, he has a decade-long connection to the club, shaping its identity on and off the field.

Bringing more than 25 years of high-performance coaching experience, Helmot has built a reputation for creating strong team environments, developing players, and driving sustained success.

His global coaching experience across leading T20 competitions, including the Indian Premier League, Caribbean Premier League and Bangladesh Premier League, has played a key role in elevating the Melbourne Renegades program.

Beyond results, Helmot’s impact can be seen in the relationships, player development, and culture he fostered, leaving the program strong for the future.

Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten paid tribute to Helmot’s contribution to the club.

“Simon has been an extraordinary Renegades person for a long time, and someone who has given so much to our club,” Rosengarten said.

“He’s not only delivered success on the field but has had a profound impact on the people and the environment around him.

“The way he connects with players, staff and fans and the care he brings to his work has left a lasting mark on our program and the broader Victorian cricket community.

“He leaves with our full support as he takes on an exciting new opportunity, and we’re incredibly proud to see him continue his journey. He will always be a valued part of the Renegades family.”
