The Melbourne Renegades have locked in one of the Big Bash League’s most dangerous hitters, with opening batter Josh Brown signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him in red through BBL|17.
Brown is red: Power-hitter extends for two more
Since joining the Club in 2024, Brown has become a genuine weapon at the top of the order, known for taking the game on from ball one and putting immediate pressure on bowlers in crucial powerplay overs.
Brown, a Brisbane-born opener, piled on 311 runs in BBL|15, highlighted by two scores in the 80s in both Melbourne Derbies to cap off a strong season.
“It’s been awesome at the Renegades, I’ve really felt at home here and looking forward to what we can accomplish as a club,” Brown said.
“I love the way we play and I’m pumped to stick around for the next couple of years.”
Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten said Brown’s ability in that top order made him a key piece of the Club’s plans moving forward.
“Josh gives us real punch at the top,” Rosengarten said. “When he gets going, he can accelerate a batting innings like few can. We’re stoked he’ll be in red for at least the next two seasons.”
Brown’s extension adds further stability to the Renegades’ batting group as the Club re-groups and looks ahead to BBL|16.
Brown's signing follows Ollie Peake's two-year extension secured as the 19-year-old leads his country at the ICC Under 19 World Cup.
