O'Neill snaps up final list spot

The Melbourne Renegades are thrilled to announce the signing of Victorian all-rounder Fergus O'Neill to the roster, finalising their squad ahead of the KFC BBL|13.

O'Neill earns the Renegades' final list spot following an impressive run with the Renegades Academy and Victoria in recent seasons.

A product of Melbourne Cricket Club, O'Neill's rapid development and progression through the ranks earned him Marsh Cup and First-Class selection for Victoria across the past two summers.

He has taken his game to a new level in 2023, making the most of his chance in the Sheffield Shield to sit fifth on the bowlers' leaderboard with 23 wickets for the season.

He joins the Renegades off the back of a 10-wicket haul in Victoria's recent Shield win against South Australia.

Speaking to media at the Melbourne Renegades' Family Day on Sunday, O'Neill said:

"I'm super excited and happy to be joining the Renegades," O'Neill said.

"After going up to Darwin in the pre-season as part of the Renegades Academy, you feel part of (the Renegades system). But to be involved with the big boys now is special and will be good fun.

"It's going to be a great learning experience from me and a good chance to develop my game further."

Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten said O'Neill's elevation to the primary squad was reward for effort.

"Fergus is a brilliant young talent and we're excited to have join the squad," Rosengarten said.

"Fergus has been part of the Renegades system for a couple of seasons now through the Academy so we've kept a close eye on him and have been impressed with his development.

"He brings a level of energy and exuberance to the squad, and we're excited for what he can bring in BBL|13."
