Rizwan lands at Gades, headlines epic draft haul

Pakistan white-ball captain Muhammad Rizwan headlines Melbourne Renegades' epic haul at Thursday's Overseas Player Draft.

The Renegades have secured a host of international talent, most notably the big-name keeper-batter from Pakistan alongside familiar faces as the Renegades look to develop and build on its fearless brand leading into BBL15 and WBBL11.

Here's how the draft in a snapshot...

WBBL

  • Pick 7 - Retention: Deandra Dottin (West Indies)
  • Pick 15: Alice Capsey (England)

BBL

  • Pick 3: Muhammad Rizwan (Pakistan)
  • Pick 11: Hassan Khan (Pakistan/USA)
  • Pick 22 - Pre-Signing: Tim Seifert (New Zealand)

With the third overall pick in the BBL15 Draft, the Renegades secured the services of Pakistan star Muhammad Rizwan.

A proven performer on the international stage, Rizwan adds quality and stability to the Renegades’ batting line-up and is regarded among the best T20 keeper-batters in the world.

The Renegades added some middle-order firepower and quality spin with their second pick, selecting Pakistan born now USA international Hassan Khan at Pick 11.

Khan, a left-arm orthodox bowler, has previously represented the Renegades having been brought on as a replacement player and feature in the opening game of BBL14 against the Sixers.

Khan has been under the watchful eyes of coach Cameron White - the pair currently together at the San Fran Unicorns at Major League Cricket - and provides an invaluable option with both bat and ball through the middle overs.

Tim Seifert, who was pre-signed on a two-year deal in BBL14, returns for his second season in red.

The keeper-batter led the Renegades' run tally last season and brings serious firepower to that top order boasting Jake Fraser-McGurk, Josh Brown and now boosted by the addition of Rizwan.

Meanwhile, in the WBBL Draft, the Renegades shrugged off some disappointing news earlier in the day and got on with the task of landing two important cogs in our title defence.

The Renegades retained West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin with Pick 7, before welcoming back Alice Capsey with Pick 15.

The Renegades' brains trust of Simon Helmot, Sophie Molineux and James Rosengarten had to pull the trigger on their target a little earlier in the draft after Perth Scorchers chose to select Dottin with their first pick (4).

It didn't take long to pull our retention lever, with Dottin locked in to return to the Gades in WBBL11.

Both Dottin and Capsey were strong contributors in their first season with the club and will return as key figures within the Renegades’ line-up as skilled all-rounders capable of getting the job done in pressure periods of games.

The Renegades opted for just two selections in the WBBL11 Draft and will now let the cricket do some talking before adding a further name to the roster.
