Gades Watch: Trio star in Bangladesh, Tammy dominates in NZ, Ferg sweeps state awards

A quick look around the grounds to see how your Renegades are faring during the BBL and WBBL offseason.

Gades trio star in Green and Gold

Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham and Tayla Vlaeminck can finally put their feet up following a huge summer of cricket which came to a head recently in Bangladesh.

All three enjoyed an extended season, with national duties following big WNCL and BBL campaigns, with Molineux and Wareham even managing to fit in a championship-winning stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women's Premier League.

All three starred for Australia in its series sweep of both ODI and T20Is, collecting a combined 21 wickets, all earning Player of the Match honours along the way.

Molineux, capping off a superb return to the Aussie team, wreaked havoc with her off-spin taking 11 of those wickets from the five games at an average of just under seven. Vlaeminck, also returning to the national level, showcased her signature pace to chip in with four wickets in the final two T20Is to help secure the series win. Wareham's impact extended to the bat, most notably her 57-run effort batting at number three in the first T20I.

In addition, all three received a welcome home gift from Cricket Australia by earning new national contracts for the 2024/25 season.

Tammy guides England home in NZ

Gades opener and international recruit Tammy Beaumont top-scored to guide her nation home in its recent ODI series in New Zealand.

Leading the series 1-0, heading into the second of three games, Beaumont set the tone early and navigated a tough middle period in the game to notch 81 from 96 deliveries to steer England to a 252-run total at Hamilton's Seddon Park.

Beaumont's knock included nine boundaries and a 70-run partnership with captain Heather Knight and came after a duck in the opening game of the series.

England would secure the win and clinch the series after bowling the home side out for 196 with Beaumont adding a little extra oomph to her Player of the Match performance with a run-out.

Ferg sweeps state awards

Gades all-rounder Fergus O'Neill dominated the Cricket Victoria State and Big Bash Awards following his superb domestic season.

O'Neill, who played two games for the Gades in BBL|13 in his first season on the list, swept the field to win the Bill Lawry and Dean Jones medals as Victoria's best performed across the Sheffield Sheid and One-Day Cup competitions respectively.

The 23-year-old showcased his all-round skill, taking 40 wickets at 17.25 average in the Shield along with 251 runs.

It was Jake Fraser-McGurk and Georgia Wareham who took out the Melbourne Renegades' Player of the Season awards.

Rooster earns IPL berth

Jake Fraser-McGurk's standing in world cricket received another boost after earning a call up for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

Fraser-McGurk was added to the Capitals' squad as an injury replacement player and joined fellow Aussies David Warner, Mitch Marsh and Jye Richardson.

Two weeks in and anticipation is building for a Fraser-McGurk's debut. The power-hitter is yet to make an official appearance for the Capitals, but is close after impressing with a stunning catch as sub-fielder in Sunday's match against the Mumbai Indians.
