WBBL|05 Fixture released

12 June 2019

The Melbourne Renegades will host a derby at Ballarat’s Eastern Oval during the Women’s Big Bash League’s first ever standalone season.

The WBBL|05 fixture was launched today with the Renegades campaign getting underway on October 19.

The side will again be led by established internationals Amy Satterthwaite, Lea Tahuhu and Danni Wyatt alongside rising Australian prospects Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham.

The Renegades will host the Melbourne Stars at Eastern Oval in Ballarat on November 23.

“The Eastern Oval certainly represents everything WBBL wants for its upcoming fixture – it’s the perfect venue to create a family atmosphere,” Ballarat Deputy Mayor Cr Jim Rinaldi said.

“The return of women’s professional cricket in Ballarat is certainly exciting for our city and the growing number of women and girls choosing to play cricket locally.

“It’s high-profile events such as WBBL which play an important role in supporting gender equity, re-shaping stereotypes and empowering women and girls to take up sport.”

More than 2,000 people attended last season’s clash in Ballarat when the Renegades hosted the Strikers.

The match was cut short due to rain early in the second innings.

“The crowd we saw last December was fantastic, particularly given there was some wet weather around, and it certainly highlighted the appetite for elite cricket in Ballarat,” Cricket Victoria’s Government

Relations and Infrastructure Manager Anthony Ilott said.

“The Renegades squad now boasts a number of players with international experience and there is no bigger rivalry in the competition than the Renegades and the Stars, so we know the Ballarat community will enjoy this fixture.”

The Renegades will take on the Stars and Sydney Thunder a week later in a festival weekend to be held at the CitiPower Centre on November 30 and December 1.

WBBL|05 shapes as an important selection platform head of the ICC’s T20 Women’s World Cup to be played in Australia from February 21, 2020.
