The Melbourne Renegades have signed South African Shabnim Ismail, with the pace bowler set to play in both derbies this weekend.
Ismail is a replacement player for Rachel Priest, with the latter unavailable this weekend due to commitments with her club side Wellington, back in New Zealand. Erica Kershaw will take the gloves in Priest’s absence.
Ismail, right-arm fast medium, has an outstanding career T20I record. In 48 appearances she has taken 43 wickets at the economy rate of just 5.58.
Her wicket taking ability at speed will offer a handy contrast to the spin heavy attack the Renegades have used in the first five matches of their season.
Saturday’s clash with the Melbourne Stars will break new ground, televised on Channel 10 for the first time.
