Melbourne Renegades have signed former Zimbabwean Under-19 player Solomon Mire as their Community rookie for BBL|03.
Mire, who currently plays for Essendon in the Bartercard Premier League and made the Team of the Season in 2012-13, played 13 first-class matches in Zimbabwe before moving to Victoria four years ago.
The 24-year-old made headlines during in July when he struck a tournament record 260, from 157 balls with 21 sixes and 13 fours, in a one-day match for Waratahs in the Darwin and District Cricket Competition.
He also struck 184 later in the season and amassed 955 runs, the second highest in the competition.
Melbourne Renegades coach Simon Helmot says Mire is a multi-skilled player.
“Solomon is a hard-hitting opening batsman who can also bowl,” Helmot said.
“We look forward to having him in the Renegades set-up this season.”
Since his return from Darwin, Mire has been identified by Victorian selectors and played in the opening Toyota Futures League fixture against Queensland.
As a community rookie, Mire will not be part of the Renegades squad of 18 players, but can be signed as a replacement player in the event of an injury to a squad member.
The Melbourne Renegades will play their opening match of the BBL|03 season against the Melbourne Stars at the MCG on December 20.
