Renegades to play match in Ballarat

Ballarat will host a WBBL home and away match for the first time this summer, as Mars and carsales strengthen partnerships.

A new partnership between the Melbourne Renegades and the City of Ballarat will see the club host an official WBBL clash against the Adelaide Strikers at Eastern Oval in Ballarat on Sunday December 9.

The announcement coincides with further growth in the club’s partnership with Principal Partner MARS® and a contract extension with Major Partner carsales.

Ballarat Mayor Samantha McIntosh said hosting a WBBL match aligns with the city’s commitment to create more opportunities for female participation in sport.

“This announcement is such a positive step forward for our city and for the growing number of women and girls choosing to play cricket in Ballarat. 

“For the first time, female cricket has never been more accessible in Ballarat and the arrival of Women’s Big Bash League means our growing number of female competitors will no longer have to look far for inspiration.

“This match not only helps put our city’s sports facilities on the map for being able to host high-profile sporting events like the WBBL, but also aligns strongly with our recently adopted Active Women and Girls’ Strategy which was developed to create more equitable opportunities for female participation in sport.”

Melbourne Renegades CEO Stuart Coventry said the club had an important role to play in taking the WBBL to regional communities.

“This is going to be the biggest season in the WBBL and we’re thrilled Ballarat will be a part of it. We look forward to working closely with the City of Ballarat to deliver this exciting event for the local community,” he said.

“We’re really keen to grow the Victorian footprint of our club and taking an official fixture to Ballarat is an important step in that process."

The Renegades will now be in action in Melbourne at Marvel Stadium, in Geelong at GMHBA Stadium and in Ballarat at Eastern Oval as part of the extended Big Bash competition this season.

The MARS® brand will also appear on the front of the WBBL playing shirt for the first time as Principal Partner.

carsales has been a major partner with the Renegades for the last two years and has renewed its relationship with the club for a further two seasons.

Coventry said the partnerships with MARS® and carsales highlight the commercial strength of the club and the league.
