The Melbourne Renegades will warm up for this year’s expanded KFC BBL season with a two game pre-tournament camp in Maroochydore in December.
The Sunshine Coast Smash practice matches against the Brisbane Heat will be held at Maroochydore Cricket Club’s home at John Blanck Oval at Elizabeth Daniels Park, Buderim.
Melbourne Renegades CEO Stuart Coventry welcomed the opportunity for the Renegades to play pre-tournament games on the Sunshine Coast.
“It’s important to make a strong start to the BBL and the Sunshine Coast Smash will give our squad an excellent opportunity to come together and prepare to perform at our best in BBL|07,’’ he said.
“The conditions and the support of the local community will no doubt reinforce that the BBL is all about the fans. The Renegades look forward to joining with Brisbane to help promote both the BBL and the WBBL and deliver a winning outcome for the grassroots of our game,” Coventry said.
Brisbane Heat General Manager Andrew McShea said the response to last year’s ‘Smash’ had been fantastic.
“The Sunshine Coast community really got behind the whole event and we felt that the Sunshine Coast Smash did everything we set out to achieve,’’ he said.
“The on-going support of the Sunshine Coast Council and Mayor Mark Jamieson was a key driver for us to come back. We’re very pleased the Melbourne Renegades can join us for the series and we look forward to promoting BBL|07 and WBBL|03 to our all fans.”
Tickets for the event will be $10 and $5 with proceeds going to assist local cricket.
Dates for the Sunshine Coast Smash will be available soon.
