WBBL: Renegades v Strikers Match Report

08 December 2018

The Melbourne Renegades have registered their first win of WBBL|04, with a thrilling victory over the Adelaide Strikers at the CitiPower Centre this afternoon.

International import Danni Wyatt provided the runs that were lacking for the Renegades in their opening match last week, hitting an explosive 62 runs off 47 balls, in a Player of the Match-performance. The English international was ruled out of playing last week by the England Cricket Board, due to the close proximity of the opening round of WBBL|04 to the World T20 Final.

Starting in field the going was tough for the Renegades, who despite a class bowling line up struggled to break the opening Strikers partnership of Kiwi power-hitters, Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates. It was Georgia Wareham who finally got the break through in the 14th over, dismissing Devine for 39.

At the end of their 20 overs the Strikers had posted a target of 154 runs to win, for the loss of 7 wickets.

The second innings saw a new Renegades' opening partnership of Wyatt and captain Amy Satterthwaite, which looked imposing until the skipper's wicket fell in the 7th over for 8 runs. With Wyatt still at the crease however the Renegades remained in control of the game, and when her wicket fell in the 13th over, the partnership of Claire Koski and Erica Kershaw saw the remaining of the 20 overs through.

With four runs required to win off the final ball of the match, Koski smashed one through the fingertips of Strikers' fielder Tabatha Saville, much to the excitement of the Junction Oval crowd.

The Renegades will back up to face the Strikers again tomorrow, this time at Eastern Oval in Ballarat, in the first WBBL match to be staged in the regional town. Play commences at 2.10pm.
