The Snapshot: Making it two winning bat-flips in a row was our skipper Tom Cooper, and once again he elected to field first. A good start with the ball saw the Strikers lose their first wicket in the third over, after a mix up saw the Renegades snare a run out. A steady partnership saw the strikers move to 46 before Ingram got a little edge through to Tim Ludeman. The big wicket of Jake Weatherald came in the ninth over, but that brought together Matt Short and Jonathon Wells. A fourth wicket stand of 104 pushed the total to 5-174 (20).
In reply the Renegades showed great intent and were going hard at the new ball, Sam Harper was promoted to open with Ludeman. The later was the first to go, which brought Cameron White to the crease, and White got things going quickly, hitting a four and a six of his first two deliveries. The pair put on a partnership of 50 before Harper was trapped in front for 28 (25), White went in the same fashion in the next over for 32 (22). The innings hit a wall after these dismissals as the Renegades stumbled to 5-82 (11). This brought together Mohammad Nabi and Daniel Christian and the pair put their foot down as they wrestled back the momentum, adding a partnership of 94 which guided the Gades to a defiant victory.
The Key Moment: With the score coming to a standstill at 5-82 after 11 overs, it brought Christian and Nabi to the crease. The pair were looking at a run rate of above 11 runs per over in the final nine overs. A partnership of 94 was the largest sixth wicket partnership in Renegades history and guided the side home, with five balls to spare.
The Key Player: The innings of Christian was on another level; his ball striking was crisp right from the moment he walked out to bat. He was calculated in his play and targeted the short side of the Adelaide Oval, ending the innings with 49* (27). He wasn’t alone out there as the President, Nabi led from the front as he also collected 48* (30), with a clinic of power hitting all around the wicket. The pair were simply brilliant with their backs against the wall, turning the result on its head.
Up Next: The Gades have now recorded back to back wins and sit undefeated in BBL08, but they are back in action quickly next Saturday, December 29 against the Sydney Sixers at Marvel Stadium.
