Finals dream over for Renegades

26 November 2021

The Melbourne Renegades' WBBL|07 campaign has come to an end, after a nine-wicket loss to the Adelaide Strikers in The Challenger at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.

Nothing went right for the Renegades on the big stage.

They were restricted to a total of just 8-83 from their 20 overs after being sent in to bat first, with the Strikers chasing down that target in the 11th over for the loss of just one wicket.

With the first ball of the game, Josie Dooley was bowled by Australian star Megan Schutt.

Another two wickets fell in the power play, before the Renegades crumbled to 7-47 at the 12-over mark.

Courtney Webb's unlucky run-out for a diamond duck - off a deflection from Amanda-Jade Wellington - summed up the Renegades' batting innings.

A late revival led by lower-order players Ella Hayward (18*), Holly Ferling (11*) and Rhiann O'Donnell (10) took the Renegades past 80.

Skipper Sophie Molineux didn't bat, after going into the game with a sore foot.

Molineux did open the bowling though - but couldn't steal an early breakthrough for the Renegades.

The Strikers stormed their way to 48 runs after their six-over power play to put the game beyond doubt.

Carly Leeson picked up the wicket of Dane van Niekerk for 43, but the Strikers sealed victory in the 12th over to win through to The Final.
