The Melbourne Renegades have announced that former Australian batter Jess Duffin (nee Cameron) has signed for the club ahead of the upcoming Rebel WBBL season.
Duffin makes the move into red from the Stars where she played 14 matches in WBBL|02.
The former Australian Women’s Cricketer of the Year has represented Australia on over 100 occasions and has 941 T20 international runs under her belt.
Duffin will share her commitments between the Renegades and Collingwood Football Club.
“I’m excited to have signed with the Renegades and looking forward to getting out there and into the action during the WBBL at both Etihad Stadium and Camberwell,” Duffin said.
“I had shoulder surgery earlier this year and the recovery process is going well so far. I’m looking forward to getting back in the nets and working with Tim Coyle and the rest of the Renegades. As I’m involved in both footy and cricket, the club has been great so far in being willing to help me contribute to both clubs,” Duffin said.
Melbourne Renegades WBBL Head Coach Tim Coyle said Cameron would be an important addition to the squad.
“Jess is one of the most experienced players around and a proven performer over an impressive international career. She will bring further batting strength to our line-up which is key in our hunt for the title this season,” Coyle said.
“More than that, I look forward to the leadership Jess brings to our squad and the positive impact she will have on our younger players,” Coyle said.
Melbourne Renegades CEO Stuart Coventry said he was pleased to welcome Duffin to the club.
“It’s fantastic news to have Jess on board with us as a senior player and great role model for young women everywhere. We’re committed to helping Jess achieve a workable balance between her cross-code commitments with football. She is passionate about making her mark in the WBBL and we’re pleased she’s decided to do that with the Renegades,” Coventry said.
Duffin joins Victorian all-rounder Sophie Molineux among the Renegades recent signings.
The Renegades begin their WBBL season with an away fixture against the Sydney Thunder on December 9.
