The Gades open their campaign against Hobart on Thursday and have named six new faces – including the returning Brad Hodge – in their 13-man squad.
Captain Aaron Finch said the club has its sights set on finals success.
“The expectation is to win it,” he said.
“Squads are very similar in terms of their depth, in terms of their power with the bat and ball so every team is going in with the same goal to win it, so that will be no different to us and hopefully we get off to a good start tomorrow.”
Internationals Dwayne Bravo and Mohammad Nabi have joined the squad ahead of the first match against the Hurricanes.
While Bravo’s talents with bat and ball are well-known to Australian audiences, Nabi will sample his first taste of the Big Bash.
“I played against him last year in the IPL and have seen a lot of his stuff over there,” Finch said.
“He’s a very crafty off-spinning bowler who can give it a real smack with the bat.
“He comes highly recommended by David Warner and Tom Moody who were in charge of Sunrisers last year.
“They couldn’t speak highly enough about him as a player and as a guy.”
The Hurricanes have named internationals Tymal Mills and Jofra Archer in their squad.
"They're going to be under a lot of pressure coming into the Big Bash for the first time," Finch said.
"Especially Mills who's got a long injury history and is expected to run in and bowl extremely fast."
