Intro
South African batsman Francois Du Plessis has joined the Renegades for the season-opening derby on Friday 7 December against the Melbourne Stars at Etihad Stadium.
‘Faf’ will fill the import quota for the Renegades first game while West Indian batsman Marlon Samuels is on international duties in Bangladesh.
The right-handed Du Plessis has just come off a brilliant century on Test debut against Australia in Adelaide, where his man-of-the-match performance helped save the match for his country.
In T20 cricket, Du Plessis had an outstanding 2012 IPL season with the Chennai Super Kings, scoring 398 runs at an average of 33 and strike rate of 131.
The 28 year-old’s brilliant anticipation and athleticism also make him a ‘must watch’ in the field.
While his chances with the ball at international level have been limited, Faf also provides a leg-spin option if the game situation requires.
Off the field, Du Plessis is an avid twitter user (@faf1307) and recently appeared in a music film clip of South African teammate AB de Villiers.
