Victorian quick and self proclaimed 'accidental cricketer’, Dirk Nannes was not going to be overlooked when it came to T20 selection.
The former skier took to the pitch in the late 90s and made an immediate impression on Victorian selectors.
Nannes has played 117 T20 matches and taken a staggering 153 wickets at an economy rate of 7.06. His best bowling in this form of the game is 5/40.
The 35-year old veteran who is of Dutch origin, used his heritage to score a gig at the 2009 World Twenty20 tournament playing for the Netherlands where he quickly established himself as a bowling powerhouse.
After catching the eye of Aussie selectors, Nannes had a stellar World Twenty20 in the Caribbean, walking away as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.
A late call-up into the Australian side for the 2011 World Cup, Nannes went straight on to compete in this year’s IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, only for his tournament to be cut short due to injury.
In his off season, Nannes runs his own skiing company in Japan, mixing entrepreneurship with his passion for the sport.
