Strano in team of the tournament

23 January 2017

Strano claimed 21 wickets for the Renegades in WBBL|02

Renegades off-spinner Molly Strano has been named in the WBBL|02 team of the tournament.

Strano played all 14 games for the Renegades and was the second leading wicket taker for the tournament, claiming 21 wickets.

Strano only went wicket less in three games, with her wickets coming at a cost of only 14.80.

She bowled with great control, opening the bowling in most games and conceding just 5.92 runs per over.

Her best bowling performance of 3-16 came against Adelaide Strikers in the opening game of the season, including snaring the big wicket of England international Tammy Beaumont LBW.

With the bat, Strano batted in the middle order, totaling 149 runs using her unorthodox technique to find the gaps.

She made her highest score of 37 not out against the Sydney Thunder on Boxing Day.

Strano’s superb season with the ball also saw her earn a spot in the top 10 bowling category in the official WBBL player ratings.

Off-spinner Strano sits at number six on the list, behind Southern Stars spinners Jess Jonassen and Kristen Beams.

All-rounder Grace Harris also appears in the ranking after performing with both bat and ball.

Harris scored 127 runs for the tournament, including a match winning 39 not out off 17 balls against the Perth Scorchers at Camberwell.

Her off-spin also yielded six wickets for the tournament at an economy rate of 6.62.

The Rankings are devised by esteemed Bond University Professor Steven Stern –who also lends his name to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method used for recalculating rain-affected run chase targets – with Cricket Australia, separates batters, bowlers and all-rounders.

The system uses performances from both current and past Big Bash matches, weighted on a sliding scale.
